This article is hot from the press, the author of which definitely wants to remain anonymous (and become part of the witness protection plan I guess). And to clear the air it was NOT the Red Lantern
Ride of the Century

The club’s annual Century Ride for 2008 is now just a memory, but for some it was more than just another ride. Completing the 160km ride that takes in breakfast at Sanctuary Cove had become a personal goal and the satisfaction of being able to tick that box was evident at Banjo’s at the end of the ride.
About twenty riders started the journey from Maccas heading south along the usual route albeit with one minor deviation. It was brilliant weather and with high spirits and a good dose of jocular banter among the riders the ride down took no time at all and without incident. Sanctuary Cove again proved to be a welcome respite and with everyone enjoying their breakfast and a little bit of eye candy, (not as good as last year though) it was time to don the helmet and gloves and begin the journey home. Now if there is one lesson to be leant from this ride, and that is not to overdo breakfast. Yours truly however didn’t listen. The omelet was just too good and it made a life a little uneasy for the first five or so kilometers out of Sanctuary Cove. However with the steady pace things eventually settled down.
After a few kilometers out from Sanctuary Cove the group decided to split with Neil T leading out the first group to begin a solid run home. All riders contributed in the rotations and with the heat starting to build it certainly meant a lot of consumed fluids. The second group kept a steady pace, but our run of good luck with punctures finally ran out at Dreamworld. It was the first of only two punctures for the day so compared to last year we definitely had a pretty good run. By the time we hit Eagleby everyone was feeling the heat and so a further pit stop was needed to get us home.
When we reached Banjos at just after midday the sun had taken its toll and a cool ice Coffee was needed to hit the spot. Unfortunately we did have one casualty who hit the wall at about the 120k mark and needed a lift home, but with a better preparation next year he has vowed to return to conquer the ride.
All in all it was a good day and a good ride by all. Definitely a ride to keep on the club calendar. And just a reminder for all those riders that completed the 160k, medals commemorating the ride will be presented to each rider most probably at the Christmas get together. More Gossip from the peloton

Who says romance is dead?Refreshing to see romance is alive and well at the club. As per usual no names, but who was the cyclist who had a go at the Raby Bay triathlon and so enjoyed it, he entered his wife for the December event without her knowing. How the flames of passion must have burnt that evening when she discovered this ‘special’ present
Money no ObjectWhispers in the pack indicate that there will be a few more new bikes in the group soon. It goes without saying that all of these new bike cost less than $1000 (I know wives and girlfriends read this!). Real prices and specifications are available for discussion at Banjos
Manhood Statement? It’s often said that a man’s car is an extension of his ‘manhood’. So what statement is the cyclist/triathelete that has just brought a new Mitsubishi Colt trying to say?
A reoccurring theme? Some of you may be wondering what has happened to our chairman. He was recently spotted at a club meeting recovering from yet another hernia operation. “I can’t understand why the doctor couldn’t fix it first time” said the chairman, who also buys his inner tubes from the same doctor. Nothing more needs to be said!
New ‘Boutique’ Cycle Shop in ClevelandGood to see that there are still some entrepreneurs in the club: it looks like a new shop specialising in saddles will be opening soon. Still a secret, the new owner has already purchased quite a few saddles from various sources. There is another rumor is that they are not for a shop but due to the difficulty in finding the correct size. No further comment needed!
