Gossip from the Peloton

In this new section, it’s hoped that all the juicy stuff that goes on over the weekend gets fully reported so no matter which group you’re in, fast or slow everyone gets to hear about what’s going on!

Wet Weather Softie’

During last Saturday’s downpour who was the not so hardened rider caught 2km (yes, that’s right just 2km) outside of Cleveland hiding in a bus shelter phoning his wife to pick him up! When two proper cyclists rode past him he sheepishly took a wheel and rode back for a coffee!

Too fast for the Oldies’

Perhaps more as a warning than gossip, it would appear that a certain young rider from the land of Lego is fast approaching his birthday when he can use ‘proper gears’. How fast will that make him! A collection for an alcoholic nymphomaniac to pop round and see him about ten o’clock every Friday has now been started.

Dropped in it!’

A rather embarrassing scene took place last Saturday at Banjos, with a rider (who should know better) buying a saddle from a French sounding rider (no names here) for cash just before his wife arrived. Thanks to the jolly frog who then offered to buy said wife a coffee with all the money her husband had just given him! Ten days later washing up, Ironing etc is still being done to apologise for the deception.

Past it?

Is the great Neil Trembath past it? Recently seen being driven home from Banjos by an emergency ambulance officer, was the Saturday ride to much for him? Giving the highly unbelievable excuse – ‘it’s my daughter’, the writing is on the wall for the old timer

New Image’

A certain rider renowned for his fashion ‘statements’ was recently observed wearing a proper shirt and shorts (that looked like they may have even been ironed), whilst buying an early morning coffee. Is this a new image? It should be noted that the shirt was a bright yellow hi-vis shirt and the shorts were teamed with work boots, but it’s still a significant improvement from the normal Saturday night attire of Joseph’s (and his coat of many colours) rejects and cycle caps. Time will tell……..

The GI curse

Why is it that despite our best efforts and intentions, we can never get more than 1 or 2 riders doing Grafton to Inverell. I think the WRCC guys are a bunch of tough nuts and more than able to do this race, so there must be something more sinister lurking behind the scenes. Recently there has been talk of the GI curse - a curse that effects all WRCC riders determined to do this race. Could this be true? Let's reflect a bit on this rumour.

Mark Lynch, one of our newer members, and a guy who I would have definately pegged as being one of the contenders recently has developed what appears to be a tendonitis on the hip, seriously damaging his chances of performing as well as he should on race day.

The Terminator rumour has it, as tough as he may be, has had to succumb to work commitments and throw in the towel, at least for this year.

And now myself (the red lantern) sit here with a shattered collar bone, concussion and a sore head after a bad crash on Tuesday while riding to work.

And lets not forget to mention El Presidente (GI Rob),the silver bullet who suffered severe trauma when he realised that he woud have to get up early nearly every morning to do the training for this race - he did last about 2 weeks in training, and that said, he put in a good effort for those 2 weeks.

Fortunately Russel H still looks like a contender, but it seems like it may be a lonely ride for him - and that's still after being cleaned up by a car about 2 months ago.

So it sems that once again WRCC will only be represented by a small contingent in New South Wales. However , there is always next year, and I for one intend to be back out on the battlefield and ready for this event.
